History of Pygmees
Pygmees was created in 1998 by Didier Chekroun, a parisian musician and fashion designer, established in Southern France’s Provence. Since then, the brand never stopped its evolution. Travels were a main inspiration and quickly, thanks to ethnic influences, the Pygmees look became a kind of universal language. The brand turned colours and comfort into religion. Polychromy is a main heritage from the first period. As years go by, the cuts became more classic. As a true end-of-sixties fan, the designer magnified the famous Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn styles. The very graphic touch reminds the french pre-seventies spirit of Paco Rabanne, Pierre Cardin or Yves Saint-Laurent. But Pop Art and Neo-Baroque appear to have also influenced these creations. Today, the brand has taken seriously ground in Asia’s vigorous market and achieved a smart u-turn, seeking for modernity. The introduction of contemporary and high tech materials as lycra, microfibre or polar fleece was a first trendy step. Because of a certain attraction to sustainable development, new fabrics, as bamboo fibers or other hybrid materials start to be experienced as well. But Pygmees remains essentially well-known as a cotton specialist. Jersey, popeline, twill or canvas don’t have any secrets for these quality-obsessed professionals. Because of the lightness and comfort provided by this natural yarn,

these collections offer to their customers the ideal wardrobe, for any type of climate. Very unique, the trendy clothes suit as much in big cities as in holiday resorts. Besides, the brand became a big hit in the main resort islands. Many retail shops are now installed in Martinique, Guadeloupe, Mauritius, La Reunion, Bali, Koh Phangan as well as Corsica, Tasmania or New Zeland. The repetition of simple geometric patterns, at crossroads between tribal art, vintage kitsch and modernity, are attracting all tourists, expats and natives, in this tropical heat. These garments are subject to a very hard quality control and all the production is centralized in the brand’s own factories in Bali, Indonesia. The results are there: well-made products and long-lasting colours. The famous cut-and-saw technique used to apply the patterns in stead of prints makes theses creations so unique. The brand offers a large choice of dresses, from figure-hugging to wide-unstructured cuts. Relaxx by Pygmees, a special range for big-sized fashion is also available. Supplying shops in more than 20 countries around the world (Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, etc…) and even more on the net, Pygmees is booming. Retro but modern and trendy in the same time, this collection is a must-have for every young-minded woman, at any age.
He who becomes the slave of habit, who follows the same routes every day, who never changes pace, who does not risk and change the color of his clothes, who does not speak and does not experience;
He or she who shuns passion, who prefers black on white, dotting ones “it’s” rather than a bundle of emotions, the kind that make your eyes glimmer, that turn a yawn into a smile, that make the heart pound in the face of mistakes and feelings;
